Awareness campaign for elimination of child marriage: RSKS India’s initiative in slums and slum areas

Child marriage still remains a serious social problem in many parts of India, especially in poor and deprived communities where there is a huge lack of education, awareness and resources. In one such effort, RSKS India organized a special awareness program with poor girls and women living in slums, slums and on the streets with the aim of eliminating child marriage.

The main objective of this campaign was to spread awareness about the ill effects of child marriage, make women and girls aware of their rights and show them the direction of a better future. During the program, women and adolescent girls were explained in simple and effective ways that child marriage not only hinders their physical and mental development, but it is also a legal crime, the ill effects of which have to be suffered throughout life.

The RSKS team, while communicating in the local language, explained in detail the problems associated with child marriage, such as loss of education, impact on health, problems of motherhood at an early age, domestic violence and lack of self-reliance. Many girls and women shared their experiences, which deeply influenced other participants and inspired them to say no to child marriage.

Creative methods like poster display, painting, dialogue sessions, group discussions and oath taking were also used in the program. Participants were assured that if anyone is ever pressured into child marriage, they can contact organizations like RSKS or the local administration.

This initiative not only inspired girls to become self-reliant, but also forced parents to think that the tradition of marrying off daughters early can be harmful for their lives.

This effort of RSKS India has emerged as a new ray of awareness in the society. This initiative proves that with the right information, right guidance and sensitive communication, we can eradicate one of the most complex problems of society – child marriage.

“Give a pen to your daughter, not vermilion at a young age” – this was the message of this campaign, which is bringing about a positive change in society.
