My name is Munni. I live in a small village near Pushkar, a holy pilgrimage site in Rajasthan. My life has not always been easy. After marriage, I faced many difficulties in my life, but I did not give up. I was determined that no matter what the circumstances, I have to give a good upbringing to my children and take care of my family.
After some time of marriage, the financial condition of our house started deteriorating continuously. My husband suffered from paralysis, due to which he could not do any kind of physical labor. The disease confined him to bed. I had to bear the heavy burden of raising three small children and the responsibility of the entire house.
There came a time when I would lose sleep thinking about what I would feed the children the next morning. But I did not let myself become weak. I decided that I would have to stand on my own feet.
I started a small business of Manihari (decorative items and cosmetics) in the market of Pushkar. In the beginning, there was a lot of difficulty. It took time to gain people’s trust and to get customers. But gradually my hard work paid off. Women started coming to me to buy bangles, bindis, combs, sindoor, and other small items.
Now this small business of nail-smithing has become the support of my family. With this income, I run my household expenses, educate my children and fulfill my daily needs. My husband is still not completely healthy, but now he is happy that I am self-reliant and struggling for the future of my children.
I want that all the women who are going through difficult situations like me should never give up. With hard work, confidence and dedication, every difficulty can be overcome. Today I am proud that I am not just a housewife, but also an entrepreneur. My dream is to expand my work further in the future and provide employment to other needy women as well.
