My name is Bhawari Devi. I live in a small village near Ajmer in Rajasthan. As a housewife, most of my time was spent in household chores and taking care of the family. But I always had a desire to contribute to the household income so that the financial condition of the family could be strengthened.

With this thought in mind, I started goat rearing in my village itself. This was a step that could be started without much cost, and I chose this path. Initially, I did not know much about this work, but I took it forward by talking to people around me, gaining experience and learning on my own.

The biggest advantage of goat rearing was that I did not have to invest much capital in it. There is no need for special place or heavy arrangements to raise goats. The environment of the village and the surrounding area were very suitable for this work. Fodder is also easily available, which made it easy to take care of goats.

Gradually my hard work started paying off. The goats started to stay healthy and some of them even gave birth to kids. This led to an increase in the number of goats I had. I started selling milk and kids in the local market, which gave me a regular income.

Goat farming not only improved my financial condition but also gave me confidence. Today I am proud that I am able to support my family’s needs and have become a self-reliant woman. The best part is that I did not have to go far from home to do this work. I can comfortably take care of the goats along with household chores.

Today I also encourage other women of the village to join a simple and profitable business like goat farming. This is a work that women can do even while staying within the boundaries of their home and become self-reliant.

Goat farming is a means that can be started without much cost and gives good income over time. This story of Bhawari Devi is an example of how if there is a desire, one can become self-reliant even with limited resources. This is an inspiration for rural women to also move ahead and improve their lives with their hard work.
