My name is Rani, and I am 33 years old. I live in a slum with my son, Ravi. Life here is often difficult. Many families, including ours, struggle to make enough money to meet all their needs. One of the hardest things is making sure that our children get enough healthy and nutritious food. With the little we earn, it’s a constant challenge to provide balanced meals for Ravi and other children in the neighborhood.
Most of the time, the food we can afford is not very nutritious, and it worries me to see Ravi and his friends not getting the proper nutrition they need to grow up strong and healthy. I’ve always wanted to do more for Ravi and the other children, but with our limited resources, it often feels like an impossible task.
Then, something wonderful happened. Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan (RSKS India) organized a Nutritious Food Distribution & Cooking Classes with Mothers program in our slum. When I heard about this program, I was filled with hope. It sounded like exactly what we needed to improve the health and well-being of our children. RSKS India came to our slum and distributed a variety of nutritious food items, including black gram, oatmeal, chickpea lentils, rice, and soybeans. Ravi was excited to see the new foods, and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to prepare healthier meals for him and his friends. The program also included cooking classes for mothers like me. We learned how to cook these nutritious ingredients in ways that were not only healthy but also tasty.
The day we started cooking and distributing the meals was a joyous one. We prepared the food with great care and shared it with the children in the slum. Seeing Ravi and his friends enjoying the nutritious meals brought me so much happiness. It was a relief to know that they were eating well and getting the vitamins and minerals they needed. The impact of this program was more than just the food itself. It brought a sense of community and support. It was heartening to see other mothers learning and sharing their cooking experiences. We all felt more empowered to take charge of our families’ nutrition and to spread the knowledge we gained from the program. I am deeply grateful to RSKS India for organizing this incredible program.
