Ritu Karidhal, famously known as the “Rocket Woman of India,” is a prominent figure in space science, recognized for her notable contributions to India’s space exploration endeavours. Growing up in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, her fascination with the universe directed her to pursue academic, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the University of Lucknow and a Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from the esteemed Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore.

Joining the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in 1997, Karidhal embarked on an impressive career marked by notable achievements. Notably, she served as the Deputy Operations Director for the Mars Orbiter Mission (Mangalyaan) in 2013, a groundbreaking venture that highlighted her professional strategic planning, execution capabilities, and leadership in spacecraft systems.

Karidhal’s career course continued with her significant role as the Mission Director for Chandrayaan-2, India’s ambitious lunar exploration mission. Despite facing hurdles, including technical challenges, her proficient guidance and reliable determination notably propelled India’s space exploration endeavours forward.

Beyond her technical expertise, Karidhal fervently advocates for women in STEM fields. Through active involvement with educational institutions and conferences, she motivates young girls to pursue careers in science and engineering. Her journey from an inquisitive child in Lucknow to a distinguished scientist at ISRO displays the transformative influence of persistence and commitment.
