Pranjal Patil was born in 1998 in Ulhasnagar, Maharashtra. From a very young age, she faced challenges regarding her visual impairment, but she did not give up. She completed her schooling in Mumbai, where she developed a keen interest in academics. Her academic journey was filled with excellence. She pursued her undergraduate studies in Political Science at St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai and her postgraduate degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi. Her academic pursuits laid a strong foundation for her future endeavours.
After her postgraduate, Pranjal chose to take the UPSC exam. Her UPSC journey lacked formal coaching. Instead, she had to use reading software for her preparation. After numerous struggles, her hard work paid off.
In 2016, Pranjal secured an All-India Rank(AIR) of 744. However, her struggles weren’t over yet. Due to her visual impairment, she was denied a posting in the Indian Railways Accounts Service (IRAS). She continued to fight for her place. In 2017, she appeared again for the exam, securing an All-India Rank(AIR) of 124. In 2018, she was posted as an Assistant Collector in Ernakulam, Kerala. Currently, she serves as the Sub-Collector of Thiruvananthapuram.
Pranjal Patil’s experience demonstrates that any objective can be accomplished with the correct willpower, diligence, and assistance. Her story goes beyond breaking barriers; it sets new benchmarks for what is achievable. As India’s first visually impaired woman IAS officer, she inspires millions with her dedication to public service and her steadfast commitment to fostering a more inclusive society. Apart from her formal responsibilities, Pranjal Patil is an enthusiastic advocate of the rights of individuals with disabilities. She passionately promotes accessibility and inclusivity in all spheres of life.
A person’s limitations define them a lot in this world. By conquering these obstacles, Pranjal demonstrated to the world what true strength is all about. “None of us knows what will happen in life,” she explained. “All we can do is work hard towards our goals.”
